Disease Prevention & Health

Focused on vaccination drives, medical outreach programs, and general health interventions within the Woji and Port Harcourt community.

The work behind clear vision

Good health is the foundation of strong, productive, and thriving communities. Through our Disease Prevention & Health initiatives, we are committed to reducing the spread of preventable illnesses and improving access to essential healthcare services in Woji and surrounding communities in Port Harcourt.

Our approach goes beyond temporary relief. We focus on sustainable, preventive healthcare solutions that protect families before health challenges escalate. This includes organizing medical outreach programs, supporting vaccination campaigns, facilitating health screenings, and promoting community health education. By increasing awareness and early detection, we help reduce the long-term impact of disease on individuals and households.

We pay particular attention to vulnerable groups, children, mothers, and underserved families, who often face the greatest barriers to accessing quality healthcare. Through partnerships with local healthcare professionals and community leaders, we ensure that our interventions are culturally relevant, accessible, and impactful.

Education remains a key component of our strategy. We believe that empowering people with knowledge about hygiene practices, disease prevention, nutrition, and early warning signs can significantly improve health outcomes. Prevention saves lives, reduces medical costs, and strengthens communities.

Our commitment to Disease Prevention & Health reflects our broader mission: to build healthier communities where individuals can live, work, and thrive without the burden of preventable illness. By taking action today, we are creating a stronger and more resilient tomorrow for Woji and beyond.

Special attention is given to vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and low-income families, who often face the greatest barriers to healthcare access. Through inclusive planning and community engagement, we ensure that no one is left behind.

Our commitment to Disease Prevention & Health reflects our belief that healthier communities are stronger communities. By addressing immediate health concerns while promoting long-term prevention, we are building a more resilient and hopeful future for Woji and the greater Port Harcourt community.

Three core activities drive this program forward

WEllnESS

Protecting Communities, One Vaccine at a Time

Our vaccination programs ensure children, families, and vulnerable populations have access to life-saving immunizations. By preventing disease before it spreads, we create healthier, stronger communities in Woji and beyond.

IMMUNITY

Prevent Today, Thrive Tomorrow

By implementing focused vaccination initiatives and enhancing community health education, we not only lower the risk of preventable diseases but also empower residents to take charge of their health, fostering a culture of wellness and resilience in our neighborhoods.

Community mapping
Planning

We identify where the need is greatest

Before installing any water system, we work closely with local leaders to understand the community. We assess where families live, identify who lacks access to clean water, and uncover the challenges they face. This groundwork ensures our Bonny WASH Water Project reaches the people who need it most.

02

Action

Teams arrive and begin the work

Community members play an active role in the Bonny WASH Water Project, learning valuable skills as we implement the systems together. The water infrastructure is maintained continuously, ensuring every household has safe, reliable access. We are dedicated to providing sustainable solutions and addressing any sanitation or hygiene challenges that come up along the way.

03
Capacity building
Sustainability

We train locals to continue the work

Before completing the project, we provide thorough training to community representatives on proper system maintenance and hygiene practices. We also establish clear maintenance plans and local support structures to ensure the water facilities are sustained long after installation. This approach empowers the community to manage and preserve the system independently, allowing the impact of the Bonny WASH Water Project to continue even in our absence.

What is Rotary?

Rotary is a global network of volunteers dedicated to creating lasting change in communities. We believe in service above self. For over a century, Rotarians have tackled the world's toughest problems. We don't just talk about change. We build it.

How do I join?

Membership is open to anyone who shares our values and wants to make a difference. We meet weekly on Thursdays at six p.m. at our clubhouse in Port Harcourt. Come as a guest first. See if we're right for you. The annual membership fee is one hundred eighty-five thousand naira.

Where does my donation go?

Every naira you give goes directly to our projects. We maintain complete transparency about our finances. Audit reports are available to members. We keep overhead low so more money reaches the people who need it.

When do you meet?

We gather every Thursday evening at six p.m. for dinner and fellowship. Members share updates on projects, discuss new initiatives, and strengthen the bonds that make us a true community. Guests are always welcome.

Can I volunteer without joining?

Absolutely. We welcome volunteers on our project days. You'll work alongside Rotarians and see firsthand the impact we create. Many volunteers eventually become members. Others simply want to help. Both are valued equally.
